Circuits Hotels Excursions

Cusco, the former Inca capital, is the hinge of every southern-Peru program and the staging point for Machu Picchu. Its Spanish-colonial core built on Inca foundations, the San Blas quarter and nearby sites such as Sacsayhuamán give a full day of touring before travellers move down into the Sacred Valley.

At roughly 3,400 metres, altitude management shapes how the destination is sequenced.

Destination guide for the trade

When to go

The dry season (May–September) offers the most reliable weather for touring and trekking and is the high season. The wet season (November–March) is greener and quieter, but trails can be muddy and the Inca Trail closes for maintenance every February. April and October are good-value shoulder months.

MICE & groups

Cusco suits high-end incentive and reward groups more than large congresses. Boutique and upscale hotels in converted colonial buildings offer characterful group space and private dining, with capacity best suited to small and mid-size incentive programs.

Incentives

Signature rewards include private after-hours access to key Inca sites, exclusive dining in colonial courtyards, and early or privileged entry to Machu Picchu ahead of the main flow. Andean textile and pisco experiences add cultural depth for reward groups.

Access & logistics

Reached by air via Cusco airport (CUZ), connecting through Lima (LIM) in about eighty minutes. Machu Picchu is a train journey from Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley to Aguas Calientes, then a short bus ascent; road transfers link Cusco and the valley in one to one-and-a-half hours.

Trade notes

Budget at least two nights and sequence altitude carefully — many operators sleep the first night lower in the Sacred Valley. Cusco anchors the classic Lima–Sacred Valley–Machu Picchu spine and combines with Lake Titicaca. Broad appeal across all long-haul source markets.
