Destination guide for the trade

When to go

The southern right whale season runs roughly from June to December, with optimal viewing between September and October. Magellanic penguins concentrate from September to March/April. Orcas can be seen at Punta Norte mainly between February and April. The destination is planned around the target wildlife.

MICE & groups

Puerto Madryn suits small and mid-sized incentive groups rather than large congresses, supported by coastal hotels able to handle contained events. The marine wildlife provides a distinctive frame for nature-based group experiences.

Incentives

Signature experiences include whale-watching boat trips, tours of Península Valdés with wildlife colonies, visits to penguin rookeries and days at coastal Patagonian estancias. The whale season is the main incentive draw.

Access & logistics

Air access is mainly via Trelew (REL), about 65 kilometres away, and complementarily via Puerto Madryn airport (PMY), with connections from Buenos Aires-Aeroparque. Transfers to Península Valdés and Punta Tombo run roughly one to two hours by road from the city.

Trade notes

Budget two to three nights, tuned to the wildlife season sought. It combines with Buenos Aires and with southern Patagonia circuits (Calafate and Ushuaia) via Buenos Aires. Good fit for nature and wildlife-watching programmes for specialised markets.
