CircuitsHotelsExcursions
El Chaltén is a small mountain village in the north of the Los Glaciares National Park, in the province of Santa Cruz, at the foot of Cerro Fitz Roy and within sight of Cerro Torre. It is the starting point of the trails that lead to high-mountain viewpoints and lagoons, and a nature destination rather than one of urban services.
In a programme it works as an extension of El Calafate, for those who wish to complement the Perito Moreno glacier with walks and mountain landscapes.
The visiting season runs approximately from October to April, with long days in the southern summer and trails in better condition. The weather is very changeable and windy, and Fitz Roy may remain hidden by clouds for several days. In winter many services close or are reduced and access to the trails is limited.
MICE & groups
El Chaltén is suited only to very small incentive groups with an interest in hiking, not to congresses or company meetings of any scale, owing to the size of the village and its limited hotel offer. For groups with work purposes it is advisable to rely on El Calafate and to reserve one or two nights of nature experience for El Chaltén.
Incentives
Credible incentive experiences include guided walks to Laguna Torre or Laguna de los Tres, the Cóndores and Águila viewpoints, day excursions to the Viedma glacier area and mountain stays. The setting of Fitz Roy gives a high visual impact for groups in good physical condition.
Access & logistics
It has no airport of its own: it is reached by road from El Calafate (FTE), on a journey of about three hours along Patagonian roads with stretches of open steppe. Once in the village, the main trails start on foot from the town itself. The condition of the roads in winter should be checked.
Trade notes
Plan 2 to 3 nights, combined with El Calafate to cover the southern sector of the Los Glaciares National Park. Attracts nature and adventure travellers from European, North American and regional markets with an interest in trekking; occupancy is high in season, so booking well in advance is recommended.

Booking & policies
Are the prices shown net or retail?
Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see an indicative retail “from” price; the net rate is never shown outside the B2B Portal.
What happens after I book?
When you book, we receive your booking and start working on it: it shows as “In process” and we let you know of every update. Vouchers are sent once payments have been received.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations follow Clause 7 of the Terms: more than 30 days before the service, no penalty and a full refund; 15 to 30 days, 25%; 8 to 14 days, 50%; 3 to 7 days, 75%; less than 72 hours before commencement or a no-show, 100%. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. The schedule above is indicative: the conditions that apply to each booking are those stated in the quotation, and may be stricter in high season, on public holidays or where a service has its own policy.
Can dates or passenger names be changed after booking?
Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
