Circuits, hotels, excursions and transfers in Quebrada de Humahuaca.

Circuits Hotels Excursions

The Quebrada de Humahuaca is a long Andean valley in the province of Jujuy, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a cultural landscape. Its coloured mountains, adobe villages, hills such as the Hill of Seven Colours in Purmamarca and the traces of ancient indigenous routes give the journey an unmistakable identity.

In a programme it is visited from Salta or from San Salvador de Jujuy, with stops at Purmamarca, Tilcara and Humahuaca, and it can be extended to the Salinas Grandes and the Hornocal hill.

Destination guide for the trade

When to go

The most stable weather is in the dry season, from autumn to spring, with sunny days and cold nights. Summer brings rains, above all in the afternoon, which may affect roads and access to some points. Given the altitude of several sections, weather and acclimatisation should be taken into account when planning the itinerary.

MICE & groups

The Quebrada is suited only to small incentive groups and cultural programmes, not to company meetings or congresses, owing to the scale of its villages and the rather limited accommodation offer. For events, it is advisable to rely on Salta or San Salvador de Jujuy and to devote a day or a night to the Quebrada.

Incentives

Credible experiences include walks around Purmamarca and its coloured hill, a visit to the Pucará de Tilcara, the excursion to the Hornocal hill and the Salinas Grandes, lunches of Andean cuisine and an encounter with the culture of local communities. It is a reward of landscape and culture with great visual impact.

Access & logistics

Access is via San Salvador de Jujuy airport (JUJ) or by road from Salta (SLA), on a transfer of about two hours to Jujuy. From there National Route 9 runs through the Quebrada northwards, passing Purmamarca, Tilcara and Humahuaca. The distances between points of interest require full days with transfers.

Trade notes

Plan 2 nights in the Quebrada, within a northwest circuit that includes Salta and Cafayate. Attracts cultural and nature travellers from the region and long-haul markets, and fits well into programmes that start from Buenos Aires. The altitude should be taken into account when putting the itinerary together, and bookings made in advance in the high season.

Useful information

Recommended stay: 2 nights in the Quebrada, although many programmes cover it from Salta or Jujuy.

Access via San Salvador de Jujuy airport (JUJ) or by road from Salta, about two hours away.

Dry, sunny climate; large temperature range and summer rains.

The route climbs progressively: Humahuaca lies at around 3,000 metres, so acclimatisation is advisable.

Combines with Salta, Cafayate and the Salinas Grandes.

Booking & policies

Are the prices shown net or retail?

Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see an indicative retail “from” price; the net rate is never shown outside the B2B Portal.

What happens after I book?

When you book, we receive your booking and start working on it: it shows as “In process” and we let you know of every update. Vouchers are sent once payments have been received.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations follow Clause 7 of the Terms: more than 30 days before the service, no penalty and a full refund; 15 to 30 days, 25%; 8 to 14 days, 50%; 3 to 7 days, 75%; less than 72 hours before commencement or a no-show, 100%. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. The schedule above is indicative: the conditions that apply to each booking are those stated in the quotation, and may be stricter in high season, on public holidays or where a service has its own policy.

Can dates or passenger names be changed after booking?

Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
