Circuits Hotels Excursions

Salta is the capital of the province of the same name and the main gateway to northwest Argentina. Its historic centre, around Plaza 9 de Julio, preserves colonial buildings such as the Cabildo and the cathedral, and the city is completed by churches, museums and a gastronomic and peña life deeply rooted in northern tradition.

In a programme it is the natural base for visiting the Calchaquí Valleys and Cafayate, the Quebrada de Humahuaca and the high-altitude landscapes of the northwest, as well as a city in which to spend a day or two in its own right.

Destination guide for the trade

When to go

The most comfortable time to travel the northwest is the dry season, from autumn to spring, with sunny days and cold nights in winter. Summer (November–March) brings rains, above all in the afternoon, which may affect roads and gorges. For high-altitude excursions, weather and acclimatisation should be taken into account.

MICE & groups

Salta is a meetings venue of moderate size, with a diverse hotel offer and spaces for corporate events, although it is not a destination for large congresses. It is suited to small and medium-sized meetings and incentive groups that take advantage of the cultural and gastronomic richness and the excursions to the valleys. Capacity should be validated for each date.

Incentives

Credible incentive experiences include a walk through the historic centre and a visit to the Museum of High Altitude Archaeology, dinners with folklore at peñas, the cable-car ascent of Cerro San Bernardo, days at high-altitude wineries and excursions to the Quebrada de las Conchas. The mix of culture, landscape and regional gastronomy offers programmes of great variety.

Access & logistics

It is reached via Martín Miguel de Güemes airport (SLA), with domestic air connections; from the city the routes leave for Cafayate and the Calchaquí Valleys, for Cachi and for the Quebrada de Humahuaca via Jujuy. Distances to the destinations in the interior are long in road time, so full days should be planned.

Trade notes

Plan 2 nights in Salta and between 2 and 4 more for the Cafayate and Quebrada de Humahuaca circuit. Attracts cultural, nature and wine-tourism travellers from the region and long-haul markets. It is usually combined with Buenos Aires, Iguazú or the Andes circuit, and multi-day excursions should be booked in advance.

Useful information

Recommended stay: 2 nights in the city, plus those required by the northwest circuit.

Access via Martín Miguel de Güemes airport (SLA) and by road towards the valleys and the Quebrada.

Dry, sunny winter with cold nights; warmer summer with rains.

The city is at a moderate altitude; excursions to the puna and the valleys climb considerably higher.

Combines with Cafayate, the Quebrada de Humahuaca and Jujuy.

Booking & policies

Are the prices shown net or retail?

Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see an indicative retail “from” price; the net rate is never shown outside the B2B Portal.

What happens after I book?

When you book, we receive your booking and start working on it: it shows as “In process” and we let you know of every update. Vouchers are sent once payments have been received.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations follow Clause 7 of the Terms: more than 30 days before the service, no penalty and a full refund; 15 to 30 days, 25%; 8 to 14 days, 50%; 3 to 7 days, 75%; less than 72 hours before commencement or a no-show, 100%. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. The schedule above is indicative: the conditions that apply to each booking are those stated in the quotation, and may be stricter in high season, on public holidays or where a service has its own policy.

Can dates or passenger names be changed after booking?

Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
