Circuits Hotels Excursions

Trujillo, capital of the La Libertad region on the north coast of Peru, holds the legacy of two pre-Inca cultures: the Chimú, with the adobe city of Chan Chan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Moche, with the Huacas of the Sun and the Moon. Its colonial centre, of coloured mansions around the Plaza de Armas, completes the cultural profile.

Huanchaco, a fishing resort very close by, adds beach, surf and the traditional caballitos de totora reed craft. In a programme Trujillo is part of the archaeological route of the north, together with Chiclayo and Lima, as a stop of two nights.

Destination guide for the trade

When to go

Trujillo is a year-round destination, with a mild climate, frequent sunshine and almost no rain. The southern summer, from December to March, is hotter and the best beach season in Huanchaco; in winter there may be mist and cooler temperatures, without affecting archaeological visits. Open-air sites should be scheduled for the morning.

MICE & groups

Trujillo is a medium-sized city with an urban offer that can serve corporate meetings and medium-sized incentive groups; for large congresses, capacity should be checked with the local supplier. Its advantage is the cultural content and the proximity of sites and beach, which allow half-day programmes after the sessions.

Incentives

Credible experiences include a guided visit to Chan Chan and the Huaca de la Luna, a dinner in a mansion in the colonial centre, a walk around Huanchaco with the caballitos de totora reed craft and a northern cookery class with ceviche. A display of the marinera, the city's traditional dance, can also be added.

Access & logistics

Access is via Trujillo airport (TRU), with connections from Lima; air operations should be checked by season. By road, the Northern Pan-American Highway links the city with Lima in a long day and with Chiclayo in about three hours. The archaeological sites and Huanchaco are reached on short transfers from the city.

Trade notes

Plan 2 nights for the archaeological sites, the historic centre and Huanchaco. Combines with Chiclayo, Lima and the north coast in an archaeological circuit. Suits cultural and archaeology markets, and clients who already know Cusco and seek another view of pre-Columbian Peru.

Booking & policies

Are the prices shown net or retail?

Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see an indicative retail “from” price; the net rate is never shown outside the B2B Portal.

What happens after I book?

When you book, we receive your booking and start working on it: it shows as “In process” and we let you know of every update. Vouchers are sent once payments have been received.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations follow Clause 7 of the Terms: more than 30 days before the service, no penalty and a full refund; 15 to 30 days, 25%; 8 to 14 days, 50%; 3 to 7 days, 75%; less than 72 hours before commencement or a no-show, 100%. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. The schedule above is indicative: the conditions that apply to each booking are those stated in the quotation, and may be stricter in high season, on public holidays or where a service has its own policy.

Can dates or passenger names be changed after booking?

Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
