Circuits Hotels Excursions

Paraty is a colonial port town on the Costa Verde of the state of Rio de Janeiro, between the sea and the Atlantic Forest. Its historic centre, with cobbled streets and whitewashed colonial houses, has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 2019 together with Ilha Grande, and is complemented by a bay of islands and beaches explored by boat.

In a programme it works as a cultural and relaxation stage between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, at an unhurried pace and with a largely pedestrian centre.

Destination guide for the trade

When to go

Paraty can be visited throughout the year. Between May and September the climate is drier and cooler, with good conditions for walking in the centre and for sailing. The austral summer (December–March) is warm, humid and the period of highest demand. The FLIP literary festival and other local celebrations concentrate occupancy on specific dates, so the calendar should be checked.

MICE & groups

Paraty is suitable for small groups and retreats with a cultural atmosphere, not for large congresses: the accommodation consists mainly of historic pousadas and small-scale hotels. Its value lies in the colonial setting and the access to the sea, which favour intimate meetings with time to discover the town.

Incentives

Credible incentive experiences include schooner trips around the islands of the bay, guided walking tours of the historic centre, visits to artisanal cachaça distilleries, dinners in restaurants set in colonial houses and launch trips to beaches that are hard to reach by land. They offer a cultural and nature contrast for small groups.

Access & logistics

It has no commercial airport in regular use, so it is reached by road from Rio de Janeiro (about four hours) or from São Paulo (somewhat longer), with private or regular transfer; the reference airports are those of both cities. Within Paraty the historic centre is pedestrian and can be explored on foot, and trips around the bay leave from the port.

Trade notes

Plan 2 nights, or 3 if a boat day on the bay is to be included. It sits between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and appeals to clients with cultural, gastronomic and nature interests, above all European and Latin American travellers who already tour south-eastern Brazil. Book in advance for long weekends and festival dates.

Booking & policies

Are the prices shown net or retail?

Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see an indicative retail “from” price; the net rate is never shown outside the B2B Portal.

What happens after I book?

When you book, we receive your booking and start working on it: it shows as “In process” and we let you know of every update. Vouchers are sent once payments have been received.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations follow Clause 7 of the Terms: more than 30 days before the service, no penalty and a full refund; 15 to 30 days, 25%; 8 to 14 days, 50%; 3 to 7 days, 75%; less than 72 hours before commencement or a no-show, 100%. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. The schedule above is indicative: the conditions that apply to each booking are those stated in the quotation, and may be stricter in high season, on public holidays or where a service has its own policy.

Can dates or passenger names be changed after booking?

Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
