Circuits Hotels Excursions

Iquitos is the main city of the Peruvian Amazon, capital of the Loreto region, on the banks of the Amazon River and with no road connection to the rest of the country: it is reached only by air or by river. It is the gateway to the lowland rainforest, with lodges and river cruises on the Amazon and its tributaries.

In a programme it works as a nature extension from Lima or Cusco and as a base for exploring the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, an extensive area of flooded forest. It combines rainforest, riverside life and an urban contrast of its own, with the Belén market.

Destination guide for the trade

When to go

Iquitos is warm and humid all year round, and it rains in any month. When the rivers rise, approximately from December to May, more channels and flooded forest can be navigated; when the water falls, from June to November, more beaches and trails are accessible on foot. Both seasons are viable, and the type of experience changes.

MICE & groups

Iquitos admits small corporate meetings and small nature incentive groups, but not congresses: the meeting-room offer is limited and the logistics of lodges and river cruises call for groups of contained size. Its value lies in the Amazon setting, not in meeting infrastructure.

Incentives

Credible experiences include navigation on the Amazon and its tributaries, guided walks in the rainforest, bird and river-dolphin watching, respectful visits to riverside communities and a stay for the group in a lodge or on a river cruise. The Belén market provides an urban and gastronomic contrast.

Access & logistics

Access is via Iquitos airport (IQT), with flights from Lima; air operations should be checked by season. The other access is by river, on long crossings that are not usually part of agency programmes. From the city, lodges and cruises are reached by river or by road and river.

Trade notes

Plan 3 to 4 nights to combine the city with a lodge or cruise. Links with Lima and with Cusco, and suits nature, bird-watching and adventure markets. Before confirming, inform the client of the conditions of the lowland rainforest (heat, humidity, insects) and of the health requirements.

Useful information

Recommended stay: 3 to 4 nights, fewer if only a nearby lodge is visited.

Reached only by air (Iquitos airport, IQT) or by river; there is no road to the rest of the country.

Tropical climate, warm and humid all year round, with rain in any month; river levels change with the season and determine the itineraries.

It is advisable to check the health requirements for the area before the trip and to bring repellent and light long-sleeved clothing.

Combines with Lima and, from there, with Cusco; the Pacaya Samiria Reserve works as a river extension.

Booking & policies

Are the prices shown net or retail?

Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see an indicative retail “from” price; the net rate is never shown outside the B2B Portal.

What happens after I book?

When you book, we receive your booking and start working on it: it shows as “In process” and we let you know of every update. Vouchers are sent once payments have been received.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations follow Clause 7 of the Terms: more than 30 days before the service, no penalty and a full refund; 15 to 30 days, 25%; 8 to 14 days, 50%; 3 to 7 days, 75%; less than 72 hours before commencement or a no-show, 100%. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. The schedule above is indicative: the conditions that apply to each booking are those stated in the quotation, and may be stricter in high season, on public holidays or where a service has its own policy.

Can dates or passenger names be changed after booking?

Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
