Máncora travel guide

Máncora is a beach resort on Peru's north coast, in Talara province, Piura region, close to the Tumbes border. Its long open beach, warm sea and sun for much of the year attract those looking for rest, surf and outdoor life. To the south come quieter beaches, such as Vichayito and Los Órganos. It is a beach extension to close a cultural trip, not a city destination.

Who to offer it to

HoneymoonSeafront hotels and bungalows, fish dinners on the beach and days without an agenda.
AdventureSurf, kitesurf and boat outings to see whales fill active days by the sea.
Incentive groupsIt suits beach retreats for small or medium incentive groups, without convention infrastructure.

When to go

The climate is warm and sunny almost all year. From December to March, in the height of the austral summer, it is hotter and the sea is warmer: this is the high beach season. From June to September it cools down and is windier; from July to October, approximately, humpback whales arrive. In El Niño coastal years, summer rains can be heavy.

How many days

Three or four beach nights are enough to rest and add a day of surf or, in season, a whale outing, without rushing. With less time, transfers take up much of the stay: the airports of Talara, Tumbes and Piura are roughly one to three hours away by road.

What not to miss

Máncora's long beach and its surf; the quieter neighbouring beaches, such as Vichayito and Los Órganos; humpback whale watching, approximately July to October, from Los Órganos and Cabo Blanco; and fresh-fish dinners at sunset. The rest is rest by the sea.

What to offer and why

Three or four beach nights to close a cultural trip, for example after Lima or the northern route. Rest alternates with a day of surf or, between July and October approximately, a whale-watching outing.

When to book

Beach demand is highest from December to March. Always check availability in advance; in that period, as far ahead as possible. Outside it there is more room, but flights and the airport transfer should still be booked well in advance, since distances are significant.

Practical and operational

Distances from the airports of Talara, Tumbes and Piura are significant, so the transfer is confirmed beforehand. In El Niño coastal years, summer rains can affect the Northern Pan-American Highway; follow the official alert status before confirming summer dates.

How we arrange it

We coordinate flights, transfers and beach-hotel stays with local establishments and operators. We choose between the airports of Talara, Tumbes and Piura according to the flight and the programme's route, and schedule whale outings with licensed boats, in season only.

Booking & policies

Are the prices shown net or retail?

Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see a reference “from” price, indicative and subject to availability; the net rate is never shown outside the B2B Portal.

What happens after I book?

When you book, we receive your booking and start working on it: it shows as “In process” and we let you know of every update. Vouchers are sent once payments have been received.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations are governed by the conditions stated in each quotation. The standard conditions are: more than 30 days before arrival, the deposit is non-refundable; 30 to 15 days before arrival, 50% of the total price is charged; less than 15 days before arrival or a no-show, 100%. They may vary on peak dates and depend on the policy of each hotel and service. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. Conditions stated in the quotation and accepted by the agency at booking take precedence over the general schedule in Clause 7.1 of the Terms.

Can dates or passenger names be changed after booking?

Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
