Praia do Forte travel guide

Praia do Forte is a coastal village in the municipality of Mata de São João, on the Linha Verde north of Salvador. It is known for Projeto Tamar, dedicated to sea turtle conservation, for the historic Garcia d'Ávila castle complex and for its calm-water natural pools, next to a pedestrian street of shops and restaurants. About an hour from Salvador, it works as a beach and nature extension after the city, at an unhurried pace and well suited to families and couples.

When to go

The climate is tropical and the sea warm all year round. From September to March sunny days dominate, and the rains are concentrated between April and June. Sea turtles nest and hatch roughly from September to March, so those months are the most interesting for Projeto Tamar; they are also the busiest.

How many days

Two or three nights are enough as a beach extension after Salvador: one day for Projeto Tamar and the Garcia d'Ávila castle, another for the natural pools and the beach, and free time in the village. An extra night suits clients who want rest without a schedule.

What not to miss

Projeto Tamar, the Garcia d'Ávila castle on its nearby hill, the calm-water natural pools for swimming and snorkelling, and the central pedestrian street with its shops and restaurants. Horse or bicycle rides along the beach and visits to the nearby ecological reserve complete the picture.

What to offer and why

Two to three nights as a beach extension after Salvador, with one day of nature and history (Projeto Tamar and the Garcia d'Ávila castle) and another at the natural pools. It suits families and couples who want rest with little movement.

When to book

Demand concentrates in the southern summer and New Year, and the supply of pousadas and beach resorts is limited. Always check availability in advance; for those dates, as far ahead as possible. Lodging is confirmed first, then the transfer and the visits.

Practical and operational

Access is by road from Salvador, about an hour depending on traffic; Salvador airport (SSA) is the gateway. The warm climate calls for sun protection all year; between April and June it is wise to leave margin in outdoor activities because of the rains.

How we arrange it

We arrange the road transfer from Salvador airport or hotel, about an hour along the Linha Verde, with contracted local operators and establishments. There is no commercial airport in the village; the centre is pedestrian and visits are organised by land.

Booking & policies

Are the prices shown net or retail?

Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see a reference “from” price, indicative and subject to availability; the net rate is never shown outside the B2B Portal.

What happens after I book?

When you book, we receive your booking and start working on it: it shows as “In process” and we let you know of every update. Vouchers are sent once payments have been received.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations are governed by the conditions stated in each quotation. The standard conditions are: more than 30 days before arrival, the deposit is non-refundable; 30 to 15 days before arrival, 50% of the total price is charged; less than 15 days before arrival or a no-show, 100%. They may vary on peak dates and depend on the policy of each hotel and service. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. Conditions stated in the quotation and accepted by the agency at booking take precedence over the general schedule in Clause 7.1 of the Terms.

Can dates or passenger names be changed after booking?

Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
