Recife travel guide
Recife, capital of Pernambuco, is a large northeastern city crossed by rivers and bridges, with a revitalised historic centre in Recife Antigo around the Marco Zero. Its cultural life is enriched by neighbouring Olinda, a colonial town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and by access to beaches such as Porto de Galinhas. It combines heritage, beach and culture, and works as a gateway to the northeast.

- Bairro do Recife (Recife Antigo) — Porto Digital The historic port district on Recife's original island, reoccupied as Porto Digital, a technology and creative-economy hub inside restored 19th-century warehouses, alongside bars and clubs.
- Boa Viagem The longest stretch of urbanized seafront in Brazil, roughly 8km, functioning as a major social, shopping and dining hub for the city, not just a hotel strip.
- Olinda's hillside street network Olinda's UNESCO-listed centre is built on hills, with an informal web of cobbled streets and alleyways linking roughly twenty baroque churches, convents and small chapels.
Beaches in Recife
- Praia de Boa Viagem An urban beach affected by shark attacks since the Port of Suape was built in the 1990s, which disrupted shark behaviour; swimming is not recommended beyond the low-tide pools, and surfing is banned.
- Praia de Gaibu (Cabo de Santo Agostinho) A roughly 3km beach about 40 minutes south of Recife, with high waves suited to surfing at high tide and swimmable areas at other times, cited among the finest beaches on Brazil's northeast coast.
- Itamaracá island beaches An island north of Recife with about 12km of white-sand beach along its eastern coast, protected by an offshore reef roughly 3km out that keeps the water shallow, calm and warm; building height has been capped at two floors since 1995.
Where to eat in Recife
- Restaurante Leite Founded in 1882, documented as Brazil's oldest operating restaurant, specializing in seafood (notably cod) and regional Pernambuco dishes, with cartola as its signature dessert.
- Parraxaxá A restaurant built around 'Cozinha Típica Nordestina' (typical Northeastern Brazilian cuisine), with locations in Casa Forte and Boa Viagem.
- Camarada Camarão A shrimp-focused restaurant concept that opened its first unit in Recife in 2005 and has since grown into a 35-unit chain across 15 Brazilian states, known for dishes such as feijoada de camarão.
What to do in Recife without booking an excursion
- Rua do Bom Jesus & Kahal Zur Israel Synagogue A street in Bairro do Recife walkable independently, home to the Kahal Zur Israel Synagogue, documented as the first synagogue built in the Americas.
- Mercado de São José A public market founded in 1871, described as the oldest Brazilian building constructed of pre-manufactured iron, with roughly 545 shops selling fish, spices, herbs, crafts and cordel literature.
- Ladeira da Misericórdia (Olinda) A steep, cobbled pedestrian street connecting Olinda's lower town to the Alto da Sé viewpoint, lined with artisan shops and galleries, walkable independently though the incline requires reasonable mobility.

The driest, sunniest season runs from September to February; March to August is wetter, especially between May and July. The climate stays warm year-round.

What to offer and why
Three nights in Boa Viagem with Olinda in the morning and a day at Porto de Galinhas. To extend, the southern coast turns the package into a beach stay; for a cultural client, the extended tour pays off more than adding another destination.
When to book
Four to six weeks. For the Carnival week, six to ten months: the bed base is smaller than Rio's or Salvador's and commits just as fast.
Practical and operational
Olinda is covered on foot over cobbles and slopes, so it does not suit a client with reduced mobility — say so before quoting. The airport transfer to Porto de Galinhas is its own product.

What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations follow Clause 7 of the Terms: more than 30 days before the service, no penalty and a full refund; 15 to 30 days, 25%; 8 to 14 days, 50%; 3 to 7 days, 75%; less than 72 hours before commencement or a no-show, 100%. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. The schedule above is indicative: the conditions that apply to each booking are those stated in the quotation, and may be stricter in high season, on public holidays or where a service has its own policy.
Can dates or passenger names be changed after booking?
Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
