Ski season in Bariloche

When June – September Late June to September, subject to snow; July is the domestic peak and August usually gives the best conditions.
Typical duration 5 days
Book 6–8 months ahead
Groups & MICE Neutral for MICE

The destination that runs against the rest of Argentina: it opens when Patagonia closes.

What it is

Cerro Catedral is the country's reference ski area, with the town of Bariloche half an hour away across a lake, which lets the destination be sold to a client who skis and to one who does not. The season opens at the end of June depending on how the snow comes in, settles through July and August, and eases in September, with fewer people and better value.

What to offer

Five nights based in town rather than on the mountain, unless the client skis every day: Bariloche gives food, the lake and the Circuito Chico for the days without snow. August for the client chasing conditions, September for the one chasing value. It chains with Buenos Aires, which in midwinter is quiet and at its lowest price level.

How it operates

Opening depends on snow rather than on a date, so a programme sold for the first days of the season must allow for the mountain opening partially. July carries the Argentine school holidays: the town runs full, with transfers and restaurants at their limit.

When to book

Six to eight months ahead, and more for July. Family rooms and lessons with a dedicated instructor are the first things to commit.

Groups & MICE

No particular impact on congresses, and a good incentive option in August or September for small groups, when the mountain is in shape and the town is no longer overrun.
