Bariloche travel guide

San Carlos de Bariloche distils Andean Patagonia into a single landscape of glacial lakes, forests and snow-capped peaks along Lake Nahuel Huapi. In winter it is Argentina's ski capital; in summer, a base for trails and boat trips. It works as a natural gateway to the lake region and the Seven Lakes Route.

What to do in Bariloche

Who to offer it to

FamiliesSnow with a ski school in winter and lakes with gentle activities in summer.
AdventureTrekking, kayaking and mountain, all from one base, with no hotel change.
Small groupsThe lake circuit and the mountain huts work better with small groups than with coaches.

When to go

Winter (June to August) brings the ski season at Cerro Catedral, with reliable snowfall. Summer (December to March) offers long, mild days ideal for hiking and lake activities; autumn adds foliage and thinner crowds.

How many days

We suggest three to four days to combine the Circuito Chico, a summit ascent and a cruise on Lake Nahuel Huapi. Adding the Seven Lakes Route towards San Martín de los Andes calls for one or two extra days.

What not to miss

The Circuito Chico loop and Cerro Campanario, with panoramic lake views; Cerro Catedral, the largest ski resort in the southern hemisphere; the cruise to Victoria Island and the Arrayanes forest; and the Seven Lakes Route heading north.

What to offer and why

Four to five nights based in town rather than on the mountain, unless the client skis every day. The season decides the product: ski in winter, lakes and trails in summer — two different trips sold under one name.

When to book

Six to eight months for July, which is both the ski peak and the domestic holiday peak. Four to six weeks in the shoulder seasons.

Practical and operational

Town and mountain are half an hour apart across the lake: a hotel chosen on price alone can add an hour of transfer a day. The season's opening depends on snow, not on a date.

How we arrange it

We coordinate guides, transfers and cruises through licensed local suppliers and sell net rates to the agency. In the winter season we book well ahead given high demand for lodging and ski lifts.

Booking & policies

Are the prices shown net or retail?

Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see an indicative retail “from” price; the net rate is never shown outside the agency portal.

How is a booking confirmed?

Most bookings are confirmed immediately and the voucher is emailed within minutes. When a service shows “In process”, RUMBO LIBRE is confirming final availability with the receptive operator at destination — usually within 24 to 48 business hours.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations follow Clause 7 of the Terms: more than 30 days before the service, no penalty and a full refund; 15 to 30 days, 25%; 8 to 14 days, 50%; 3 to 7 days, 75%; less than 72 hours before commencement or a no-show, 100%. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. The schedule above is indicative: the conditions that apply to each booking are those confirmed in the quotation, and may be stricter in high season, on public holidays or where a supplier applies its own policy.

Can dates or passenger names be changed after confirmation?

Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed with the receptive operator subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
