Búzios travel guide
Búzios is a beach peninsula east of Rio de Janeiro that became a chic destination after Brigitte Bardot's visit in the 1960s. It gathers more than twenty beaches of different character, from calm swimming waters to surf-friendly coves, and lively evenings around the Rua das Pedras and the Orla Bardot boardwalk. About two and a half hours from Rio, it is a natural extension of beach and sophistication for a Costa do Sol programme.

What to do in Búzios
- The beach circuit by schooner approx. 4 h A half-day by sea; the way to see the whole peninsula without driving.

- Rua das Pedras at dusk approx. 2 h The pedestrian centre packs dinner and shopping into a few blocks.

Neighbourhoods in Búzios
- Centro (Rua das Pedras) The walkable town centre where most restaurants, shops and nightlife concentrate — everything reachable on foot.
- Praia dos Ossos Búzios' oldest settlement and original fishing village, home to the Igreja de Sant'Anna (c. 1740, the town's oldest building) and a working fishing harbour.
- Geribá Búzios' largest concentration of lodging (hotels, pousadas and hostels of every category), with a daytime surf and beach-club atmosphere.
- Ferradura An upscale, family-oriented bay with calmer water than the open-ocean beaches and sophisticated pousadas — a good pick for honeymooners or families.
- Manguinhos & Porto da Barra The marina side of the peninsula, home to the Porto da Barra complex (restaurants, galleries, surf shops) known for the best sunset in town.
Beaches in Búzios
- Praia do Forno A 100m cove whose sand turns visibly pink in the sun from garnet in the surrounding rock; calm, clear water with natural rock pools for snorkelling, Blue Flag-certified since 2024.
- Praia Brava A 660m surf beach split by a rock formation into two coves: the left side has consistent waves favoured by surfers, the right is quieter and more isolated.
- Azeda & Azedinha Twin sheltered coves with the calmest, clearest water on the peninsula, ideal for snorkelling; reachable only by an 8-minute boardwalk trail or a short boat ride, no vehicle access.
- Praia de Manguinhos An 8km stretch on the peninsula's western side with the region's most consistent wind, base for sailing regattas, windsurfing and kitesurfing, with a paved promenade.
- Praia da Tartaruga A 2km, family-friendly cove with calm, warm, green-tinted water good for swimming; a nesting site for three sea-turtle species, hence the name.
Where to eat in Búzios
- Chez Michou A French/Belgian crêperie on Rua das Pedras, open continuously since 1983 and considered Búzios' most iconic casual dining institution, with over 50 sweet and savoury fillings.
- Cigalón A contemporary French restaurant in the Porto da Barra complex, known for a sea-view terrace and a menu mixing French technique with Brazilian ingredients — book ahead for a romantic dinner.
- Bar dos Pescadores A seafood restaurant on Manguinhos beach, operating since 1996, specializing in fresh daily catch and lobster, with sunset-facing seaside seating.
- Restaurante do David A traditional, unpretentious seafood restaurant near Praia dos Ossos, open since 1972, best known for a shrimp moqueca sized to share among three people.
What to do in Búzios without booking an excursion
- Free hike to the Mirante da Azeda An easy, paved 8-minute trail from the end of Praia dos Ossos to a viewpoint over the Azeda/Azedinha coves — a free alternative to the paid water-taxi.
- Igreja de Sant'Anna Búzios' oldest standing building (c. 1740), built with whale-oil mortar during the town's whaling era; a free, 15-minute self-guided historical stop on foot from Centro.
- Snorkel the rock pools at Praia do Forno No boat or guide required: rent a mask on-site and swim the sheltered rock pools formed by the beach's outcrops, reachable by a short paved road.
- Feira de Artesanato at Praça Santos Dumont A free weekend craft market held in summer in Centro, distinct from the daily shops on Rua das Pedras — good for an evening stroll without booking anything.

When to go
The southern summer (December to March) is warm and sunny with ideal swimming, but also the busiest. Autumn and spring offer good weather with fewer crowds.

Two or three nights allow time for the main beaches and the town's atmosphere.

The beaches of Geribá, Ferradura and João Fernandes, the Rua das Pedras, the Orla Bardot boardwalk and boat trips between coves.
What to offer and why
Two to three nights as the extension that closes a Rio programme, by road. For a honeymoon, three nights and a north-side pousada pay off more than adding another city.

Practical and operational
The transfer from Rio is by road and takes two to three hours depending on the exit from the city: count it as half a day rather than adding it to the arrival day.

When you book, we receive your booking and start working on it: it shows as “In process” and we let you know of every update. Vouchers are sent once payments have been received.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations follow Clause 7 of the Terms: more than 30 days before the service, no penalty and a full refund; 15 to 30 days, 25%; 8 to 14 days, 50%; 3 to 7 days, 75%; less than 72 hours before commencement or a no-show, 100%. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. The schedule above is indicative: the conditions that apply to each booking are those stated in the quotation, and may be stricter in high season, on public holidays or where a service has its own policy.
Can dates or passenger names be changed after booking?
Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
