Rio de Janeiro travel guide

Rio packs into a single bay everything that defines Brazil: Christ the Redeemer atop Corcovado, Sugarloaf Mountain leaning out over the Atlantic, and the beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon just minutes from the urban rainforest of Tijuca National Park. It is an almost obligatory stop when opening a Brazil programme, and works equally as the first stop of a circuit or as a stay in its own right.

Who to offer it to

First time in South AmericaIt packs the icons a client expects of Brazil into a single bay.
FamiliesBeach in the afternoon plus two half-days of icons is enough without wearing the children out.
Culture and historySanta Teresa, the historic centre and samba carry a programme that does not depend on beach weather.

When to go

The southern winter (May to October) is cooler and drier: the best window for hiking in Tijuca, paragliding and clear viewpoints. Summer (December to March) is hot and beach-focused; February brings Carnival, with high demand and rates, so book well ahead. March–May and September–October balance weather and occupancy.

How many days

Three to five nights are enough to cover Corcovado, Sugarloaf, the beaches and a Tijuca excursion at an unhurried pace.

What not to miss

Christ the Redeemer (Corcovado), Sugarloaf Mountain, the Selarón Steps, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Maracanã; for anyone with an extra day, the Tijuca rainforest.

What to offer and why

Four to five nights work for a first trip: Corcovado, Sugarloaf, an afternoon on the beach and a Tijuca outing. For a returning client, three nights plus an extension to Búzios or Foz do Iguaçu pays off more than a longer city stay.

When to book

Outside high season, four to six weeks is enough. For December, January and the Carnival week, eight to twelve months — and inside six months what is left in the south zone is no longer what the client asked for.

Practical and operational

Galeão handles international traffic and Santos Dumont domestic, at different distances from the south zone: settle which one before quoting the transfer. Corcovado and Sugarloaf depend on visibility, so scheduling them with slack inside the itinerary avoids rebuilding the day.

How we arrange it

Corcovado and Sugarloaf reward an early visit, before the cloud and the crowds; we schedule them by date and availability within the programme.

Booking & policies

Are the prices shown net or retail?

Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see an indicative retail “from” price; the net rate is never shown outside the agency portal.

How is a booking confirmed?

Most bookings are confirmed immediately and the voucher is emailed within minutes. When a service shows “In process”, RUMBO LIBRE is confirming final availability with the receptive operator at destination — usually within 24 to 48 business hours.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations follow Clause 7 of the Terms: more than 30 days before the service, no penalty and a full refund; 15 to 30 days, 25%; 8 to 14 days, 50%; 3 to 7 days, 75%; less than 72 hours before commencement or a no-show, 100%. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. The schedule above is indicative: the conditions that apply to each booking are those confirmed in the quotation, and may be stricter in high season, on public holidays or where a supplier applies its own policy.

Can dates or passenger names be changed after confirmation?

Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed with the receptive operator subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
