Puerto Madryn travel guide
Puerto Madryn is the coastal base for Península Valdés, a protected natural area and one of Atlantic Patagonia's great wildlife stages. It is the starting point for watching southern right whales, the sea lion and elephant seal colonies, and the penguin rookery at Punta Tombo. The wildlife calendar shapes much of the trip.

- Península Valdés approx. 9 h A full day; the wildlife changes by month, and it is worth saying which will be seen.
- Boat whale watching from Puerto Pirámides approx. 4 h It depends on the state of the sea and can be rescheduled on the day.
- Punta Tombo approx. 9 h The Magellanic penguin colony; a full day heading south.
- Snorkelling with sea lions approx. 4 h In the water beside a resident colony, in a wetsuit and with a guide; it runs all year.
- The Punta Loma reserve approx. 3 h The nearest colony to town; the outing that saves the day when the sea cancels the boat.
- Gaiman and the Welsh valley approx. 8 h Chapels and afternoon tea in the Chubut valley; it pairs with the penguin colony.

When to go
Southern right whales are seen in the gulfs from June to December, with the best viewing between August and October. Magellanic penguins are present from September to March/April, when the weather also improves.
How many days
Two to three days allow a full day on Península Valdés with whale watching plus an excursion to Punta Tombo. Distances are long, so it is best not to compress the itinerary.

What to offer and why
Three nights with the format chosen by month: shore-based and boat-free in winter, boat-based in spring. The destination sells as marine wildlife rather than as a single species, because the species changes with the calendar.
When to book
Four to six months for September and October, the most active months. Four to six weeks in summer.
Practical and operational
Sightings are not guaranteed: this is wildlife, and saying so before the sale protects the agency. Boat departures depend on the sea. Península Valdés is a long day with real distances inside the park itself.

Are the prices shown net or retail?
Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see an indicative retail “from” price; the net rate is never shown outside the agency portal.
How is a booking confirmed?
Most bookings are confirmed immediately and the voucher is emailed within minutes. When a service shows “In process”, RUMBO LIBRE is confirming final availability with the receptive operator at destination — usually within 24 to 48 business hours.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations follow Clause 7 of the Terms: more than 30 days before the service, no penalty and a full refund; 15 to 30 days, 25%; 8 to 14 days, 50%; 3 to 7 days, 75%; less than 72 hours before commencement or a no-show, 100%. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. The schedule above is indicative: the conditions that apply to each booking are those confirmed in the quotation, and may be stricter in high season, on public holidays or where a supplier applies its own policy.
Can dates or passenger names be changed after confirmation?
Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed with the receptive operator subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
