Viña del Mar is a seaside city on the central coast of Chile, in the Valparaíso region, about 120 km from Santiago by Route 68. Its beaches, the Castillo Wulff, the Quinta Vergara and the Flower Clock sum up a coastal destination with an urban offer. It adjoins Valparaíso, whose historic quarter has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003. In a programme it works as an extension of Santiago or as a base for getting to know Valparaíso.
The climate is temperate Mediterranean, with rain concentrated in winter and an annual mean temperature of about 14 °C. December to February is the beach high season, with more intense heat and lodging that is harder to find; the Festival Internacional de la Canción is held at the Quinta Vergara, usually in February. Outside summer the atmosphere is cooler and quieter.
One or two nights are enough as an extension of Santiago: one day for the Viña del Mar coast and another for Valparaíso, with its hills and funiculars. With a single night it is wise to choose one of the two; with more time, the beaches as far as Reñaca and a museum or a garden can be added without hurry.
The Castillo Wulff on the rocks of the coast; the Flower Clock, the Botanical Garden and the Quinta Vergara; the Museo Fonck, of archaeology and history; the beaches, as far as the seaside resort of Reñaca; and, in Valparaíso, the Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción hills with a ride on a funicular.
One or two nights as an extension of Santiago, with a coast day in Viña del Mar and another in Valparaíso. It combines with Santiago and, for those with more time, with the excursion to Isla Negra. The catalogue excursions leave from the hotel in Santiago, so they can also be done without changing lodging.
Demand concentrates in the austral summer, December to February, when coastal lodging is harder to find. Always check availability in advance; in that period, as far ahead as possible. Outside summer there is more room.
There is no commercial airport of its own: the city is reached by Route 68 from Santiago, about 120 km, or by direct bus. An urban train runs between Viña del Mar and Valparaíso. Bring sunscreen and light clothing in summer, and a warm layer in the rainy season; allow a margin at busy hours.
We coordinate transfers from Santiago or from the airport, coastal hotels and excursions to Valparaíso with local guides and drivers. The stretch along Route 68 calls for a margin at busy hours, above all in summer, so we leave slack in the programme.
Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see a reference “from” price, indicative and subject to availability; the net rate is never shown outside the B2B Portal.
When you book, we receive your booking and start working on it: it shows as “In process” and we let you know of every update. Vouchers are sent once payments have been received.
Cancellations are governed by the conditions stated in each quotation. The standard conditions are: more than 30 days before arrival, the deposit is non-refundable; 30 to 15 days before arrival, 50% of the total price is charged; less than 15 days before arrival or a no-show, 100%. They may vary on peak dates and depend on the policy of each hotel and service. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. Conditions stated in the quotation and accepted by the agency at booking take precedence over the general schedule in Clause 7.1 of the Terms.
Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
