Paracas travel guide
Paracas blends sea and desert on Peru's southern coast: the Ballestas Islands, rich in sea lions and guano birds, and the Paracas National Reserve, where the desert meets cliffs and beaches. A few hours from Lima, it is an accessible stop often chained with the Nazca Lines or the Ica oasis.

Beaches in Paracas
- Playa Roja (Red Beach) A red-sand beach inside the Paracas National Reserve, coloured by eroded porphyry rock; protected, viewed only from an official platform with no access to the sand.
- Playa Yumaque A swimmable beach inside the reserve with public restrooms; one of the few reserve beaches where camping is allowed.
- El Chaco beach and pier The town's working fishing harbour and departure point for boats to the reserve and the Ballestas Islands.

- Malecón El Chaco boardwalk A roughly 10-minute waterfront walk end to end, lined with restaurants and craft stalls.
- Extended waterfront path The coastal path continues 4-5km beyond the main boardwalk, no guide required.

When to go
The best months run from June to September, with calmer seas that make the Ballestas boat trip easier. Marine wildlife is present year-round; boat departures are usually early in the morning.
How many days
One or two days are enough for the Ballestas Islands and the National Reserve. Many programmes include it as an intermediate stop between Lima and Nazca or Ica.

What happens after I book?
When you book, we receive your booking and start working on it: it shows as “In process” and we let you know of every update. Vouchers are sent once payments have been received.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations follow Clause 7 of the Terms: more than 30 days before the service, no penalty and a full refund; 15 to 30 days, 25%; 8 to 14 days, 50%; 3 to 7 days, 75%; less than 72 hours before commencement or a no-show, 100%. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. The schedule above is indicative: the conditions that apply to each booking are those stated in the quotation, and may be stricter in high season, on public holidays or where a service has its own policy.
Can dates or passenger names be changed after booking?
Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
