Cafayate, at the southern end of the Calchaquí Valleys in the province of Salta, is a wine centre of northwest Argentina, with high-altitude vineyards and an emblematic wine, torrontés. Reddish hills, a sunny, dry climate and a small town centre with a traditional air complete the visit, which is usually combined with the Quebrada de las Conchas on the road from Salta.
Cafayate enjoys good weather for much of the year, with long hours of sunshine and little rain; the most recommended period runs from April to November. Summer is hot and can bring rain that affects the road. The harvest is concentrated towards the end of summer and in autumn, and in winter the days are pleasant and the nights cold.
Cafayate is best not treated as a day excursion: two nights allow for the wineries, the town and an unhurried afternoon, and the journey from Salta already takes up much of a day. A third day can extend the trip northwards through the Calchaquí Valleys.
The high-altitude wineries and their tastings of torrontés and red wines; the Quebrada de las Conchas, with the Devil's Throat and the Amphitheatre, on the road from Salta; the Vine and Wine Museum; and the traditional town centre, with the reddish hills behind. Wineries are best booked in advance.
Two nights with one day of wineries and another of scenery: the Quebrada de las Conchas on the way in or out, and the high-altitude estates in the valley. A third day opens the Calchaquí Valleys towards Cachi. A slow-paced destination, made for couples and small groups.
Demand rises with the harvest and the February Serenata, and hotel capacity in town is limited. Always check availability in advance and, for those dates, as far ahead as possible. Groups should block their lodging first, before building the day plans.
It is reached only by road, normally from Salta along Route 68, about 180 kilometres in a journey of several hours with stops; there is also access from Tucumán. In the rainy season, check road conditions and plan transfers with a margin.
We coordinate winery visits, lunches and transfers with local operators and establishments. Wineries work by prior booking, especially in the harvest, and the road from Salta depends on the weather, so we confirm well in advance.
Rates are net (wholesale) and reserved for travel agencies and tour operators, who sign in to see them and add their own margin. Public visitors see a reference “from” price, indicative and subject to availability; the net rate is never shown outside the B2B Portal.
When you book, we receive your booking and start working on it: it shows as “In process” and we let you know of every update. Vouchers are sent once payments have been received.
Cancellations are governed by the conditions stated in each quotation. The standard conditions are: more than 30 days before arrival, the deposit is non-refundable; 30 to 15 days before arrival, 50% of the total price is charged; less than 15 days before arrival or a no-show, 100%. They may vary on peak dates and depend on the policy of each hotel and service. Certain destinations — Patagonia, the Amazon region and high-demand dates in peak season — apply stricter terms, stated in the quotation. Conditions stated in the quotation and accepted by the agency at booking take precedence over the general schedule in Clause 7.1 of the Terms.
Amendment requests must reach RUMBO LIBRE at least 72 business hours before the service begins. Changes are managed subject to availability, and any resulting rate difference applies. For private services, a name change may require re-issuing the booking at the current rate.
