PUERTO MADRYN - ARGENTINA
Gateway to Península Valdés, Puerto Madryn anchors the logistics of Patagonian wildlife: southern right whales, Magellanic penguins, sea lions and elephant seals. The city concentrates services, air connection and boat departures towards the Golfo Nuevo.
Accommodation splits into two zones. Puerto Madryn offers urban seafront hotels with full services and a solid operating base for excursions. Puerto Pirámides, inside the peninsula, holds smaller properties beside the launch point, practical for sightings in high season.
The whale season runs from June to December. Between June and August, shore-based viewing works at El Doradillo, near Madryn; from September to December the activity shifts to Puerto Pirámides. Booking accommodation several months ahead is advisable for September and October.
