Recife, capital of Pernambuco, links a centre of colonial architecture, museums and river bridges with access to neighbouring Olinda. It also serves as a gateway to the Pernambuco coast and excursions towards Porto de Galinhas.
For accommodation, Boa Viagem is the reference seafront zone: oceanfront hotels, a promenade, restaurants and good links to airport and centre. Supply ranges from mid-range to beachfront properties.
Operational note: at Boa Viagem sea bathing is prohibited due to shark risk, with signage and zones restricted by the authorities; pax can use the hotel pool and the natural tide pools at low water. For sea swimming, schedule an excursion to the southern beaches.
