Description

PUERTO MONTT - CHILE

Puerto Montt is the port city on the Reloncaví Sound and the entry point to Chilean Patagonia and the Lake District (Región de los Lagos). It centres on its waterfront, the Angelmó cove and market, and the link to Tenglo Island; it also serves as a base for excursions to Chiloé and the start of southbound sailings.

City lodging is complemented by nearby Puerto Varas (about 20 minutes), preferred in many circuits for its lakeside setting; the two are usually visited together within the same Lake District programme.

El Tepual airport (PMC) runs direct flights to Santiago and acts as the region's air gateway; Puerto Montt is also a cruise port and ferry terminal. Peak season runs from November to March. Operationally it tends to work as a transit hub, with one or two nights depending on the connection.
