PARACAS - PERÚ
Paracas is a coastal town in the Ica region, on Peru's southern Pacific shore. Its main draw is the boat excursion to the Ballestas Islands, with colonies of sea lions, guano birds and Humboldt penguins, complemented by the Paracas National Reserve, a protected area of desert coastline, cliffs and beaches.
Lodging centres on hotels along the waterfront and beach resorts with spa facilities, alongside mid-range guesthouses in the town. It serves as a regular base to combine with Ica and Huacachina.
Operationally, the Ballestas boat departs in the morning only, owing to wind conditions, so an early embarkation should be booked. Paracas lies about 3.5 hours by road from Lima via the Pan-American Highway, suiting stays of one to two nights.
