USHUAIA - ARGENTINA
Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego, sits on the Canal Beagle and serves as the usual base for channel cruises, excursions to Tierra del Fuego National Park and departures toward Antarctica. Its setting combines coast, mountains and sub-Antarctic forest.
The city centre, around the main avenue and the tourist pier, concentrates town hotels a short distance from the port and from excursion departures, convenient for guests without a vehicle. On the slopes and higher ground there are panoramic-profile hotels with channel views, somewhat farther from the centre.
Demand concentrates from November to March, with the austral summer as the main season. Tierra del Fuego National Park lies about 20 minutes to the west. To combine a channel cruise with the park, plan at least two nights.
