BUZIOS - BRASIL
Armação dos Búzios, on Rio de Janeiro's Costa do Sol, is a peninsula with more than twenty beaches of varied profile, from calm waters on the north side to open stretches for surfing in the south. Daytime activity combines beach time, boat trips and tours around the coves.
For accommodation, the centre around Rua das Pedras and the Orla Bardot gathers restaurants, shops and pousadas along the seafront walk; the slopes near Armação offer boutique pousadas with views. The eastern beaches sit further out and suit quieter stays.
Operational note: Búzios lies about 170 km from Rio de Janeiro, with a road transfer of roughly 2 h 30 min to 3 h depending on traffic; allow for this when chaining with a Rio city tour.
