The visit runs along the Itaipú dam, on the Paraná river, operated by Brazil and Paraguay. From the Centro de Recepção de Visitantes, a panoramic bus moves along the plant's external structure and stops at the Mirante Central, over the dam. From there you see the scale of the dam, the concrete wall that closes the river, and the reservoir extending upstream.

The guide explains how the plant works and the order of magnitude of its energy output. The full bus route lasts a little over an hour, with time for photographs at the stops.

The circuit may change for operational or plant security reasons. The Special Circuit requires a minimum age of 14 and official photo ID. Groups over 3 passengers: SUV or Minivan. Guide included. Available languages to be arranged at the time of booking.
