Cerro Tronador and Ventisquero Negro

Private full-day excursion to Cerro Tronador and Ventisquero Negro, in Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi, with guide. Route along Ruta 40 and a mountain road to Pampa Linda.

The day starts leaving Bariloche southbound along Ruta 40, following the shores of the Gutiérrez and Mascardi lakes. Past the lake the paved road gives way to a single-lane gravel track that climbs into the mountains for around 40 km to Pampa Linda, with Cerro Tronador and its hanging glaciers gradually coming into view ahead.

From Pampa Linda the route reaches Ventisquero Negro, a glacier whose ice carries sediment and volcanic ash that give it its dark colour and the lagoon at its foot. Along the way come the Mascardi lake viewpoint and the Devil's Throat, a rock amphitheatre with waterfalls. The return to Bariloche follows the same road, accompanied by a guide throughout the day.
