Punta Loma — sea lion reserve
Private half-day tour to the Punta Loma wildlife reserve from Puerto Madryn, with guide, to view the South American sea lion colony. About 17 km from the city.
A gravel road runs along the Golfo Nuevo coast to the Punta Loma viewpoint, set on a cliff overlooking the pebble beach. Below, on the rocks, a South American sea lion colony rests: the bellowing of the males carries clearly from above, alongside the constant movement of the pups entering and leaving the water.
The viewpoint also looks over rock cormorants and terns that nest in the cliff walls. In the steppe part of the reserve guanacos, maras and foxes appear. The visit is scheduled at low tide, when the sea lions occupy the rock strip, accompanied by a guide who explains the biology of the colony.
