The day starts with the hotel pick-up and the climb up to the Maras plateau. The first stop is Moray, where several circular terraces sink in the form of an amphitheatre: each ring marks a temperature difference from the one above, and the complex worked as an agricultural station for trialling crops at different altitudes.

The route then continues to the Salineras de Maras, accompanied by a guide. More than three thousand stepped pans cover the hillside, fed by a spring of salt water that surfaces from the mountain; the sun evaporates the water and the salt is gathered by hand, as it has been since pre-Hispanic times. From the walkways the salt workers can be seen moving among the white pans, with the valley open beyond.

The walk along the salt-pan paths involves walking at altitude on uneven terrain, above 3,300 m. Guide included. Available languages to be coordinated at the time of booking.
