Chinchero — Andean Textiles and Community

Private excursion to Chinchero in the Sacred Valley, with guide and a visit to a community weaving centre. Admission to the archaeological park via Boleto Turístico is included.

After the hotel pick-up, the drive climbs to Chinchero, in the upper part of the valley. On the square, the colonial church sits on the stone walls of a former Inca palace, and from the edge of the town the terraces open out towards the valley.

At a community textile centre, accompanied by a guide, the weavers show how they wash and card alpaca wool, how they obtain colours from plants and cochineal, and how they weave on a backstrap loom following designs passed down through generations. The visit shows the full process, from fibre to finished cloth, and allows conversation with the artisans about their work.
