Huacachina and Ica dune buggy and sandboarding
Dune buggy ride over the Huacachina dunes, in Ica, with sandboarding. Departure from the oasis into the sand desert.
The ride starts at the Huacachina oasis, a body of water ringed by palm trees in the middle of the Ica desert. From there, the dune buggy heads into the sand and begins to climb and descend the dunes, with stretches of fast descent and changing slopes.
At several points the vehicle stops at the top of a dune for sandboarding: you go down the sandy slope seated or lying on the board, depending on the gradient. If the departure is in the afternoon, the final descents coincide with sunset over the sea of dunes.
Operational notes
Activity subject to ground and wind conditions; it may be rescheduled due to sandstorm. Not recommended for people with spine or neck problems due to the movement of the dune buggy. The sunset departure depends on the season and the available schedule.
