Lake Tres Chimbadas and macaw clay lick

Excursion to Lake Tres Chimbadas and a macaw clay lick in Tambopata, with guide. Combines a paddle-catamaran circuit and dawn bird watching.

From the lodge, a short boat leg and a trail of about 45 minutes through forest lead to Lake Tres Chimbadas. There, a paddle catamaran moves slowly over the still water, following the shore where herons, kingfishers and the resident family of giant river otters appear.

The macaw clay-lick visit takes place in the early hours of the day. Flocks of parrots and parakeets gather above the reddish clay bank, followed by several macaw species that come down to feed on the clay. The movement and colour of the birds set the rhythm of the morning.

Operational notes

Clay-lick activity depends on weather conditions; on rainy days bird gatherings may be reduced. Early-morning start. Guide included. Available languages to be coordinated at the time of booking.
