The route leaves Puerto Varas along the shore of Lago Llanquihue to Ensenada, where the road begins to climb the flank of the volcano. At the mountain centre at 1,240 metres, the landscape opens toward the lake, the snow-capped cone of the Osorno and, on clear days, the Calbuco volcano and the Pacific in the distance.

There is time to walk the nearby trails and visit the cafeteria. Those who wish can take the chairlift, which rises to the Primavera station at 1,450 metres or the Glaciar station at 1,750 metres, where the views widen over the region's glaciers and lakes. The pace adjusts to the group, accompanied by a guide.
