The day begins in Recife Antigo, set across the three islands that form the city centre: Marco Zero opens towards the quay, with the Rua do Bom Jesus, the Kahal Zur Israel synagogue and the Paço do Frevo only steps away. The guide explains how the port and the bridges shaped the city.

In the afternoon the route climbs to Olinda. From the Alto da Sé the view reaches the colonial rooftops and, in the distance, the outline of Recife. The walk passes churches, craft workshops and coloured houses, with stops at the Mosteiro de São Bento and the points where Carnival keeps its giant puppets.
