The southern coast road leads in about two hours to Praia dos Carneiros, a strip of sand lined with coconut palms where the Rio Formoso meets the sea. Right on the beach stands the Capela de São Benedito, a small 18th-century church surrounded by water at high tide.
The day passes between swims in the calm sea and the pools that form with the tide. Those who wish can add on site a boat trip along the estuary, with stops for a clay bath and mangrove, before the afternoon return to Recife.
