BARILOCHE - ARGENTINA
San Carlos de Bariloche sits within Nahuel Huapi National Park, on the shore of the lake of the same name, in the Argentine Andean Patagonia. Its main draws combine Lake Nahuel Huapi, the surrounding peaks for skiing and trekking, and the Circuito Chico, a scenic drive toward the Llao Llao peninsula.
For lodging it helps to separate two zones. The Centro Cívico concentrates town hotels, shops and walk-in excursion departures, suitable for guests without a vehicle. The Llao Llao peninsula and Circuito Chico, some 20-30 minutes from the centre, offer lodges and resort-profile hotels facing the lake and forest, with transfer service.
High season splits between the austral summer (December to March) for trekking and lakes, and winter (July-August) for skiing at Cerro Catedral. Plan at least two or three nights to cover the Circuito Chico plus one further excursion.
