Patagonian estancia — country day and spit-roasted lamb
Country day at a Patagonian estancia near El Calafate, with guide. Includes herding and shearing demonstration, a walk through the ranch grounds and a spit-roasted lamb lunch.
The day starts with the transfer from El Calafate out to the open steppe. At the estancia, sheepdogs gather the flock while a ranch hand explains the daily work; in the shed you watch hand shearing with scissors, motion by motion, over the still-warm wool.
The walking route passes the corrals and the kitchen garden before reaching the quincho, where Patagonian lamb roasts on the spit over the embers. The table is rounded out with empanadas, salads and dessert. Accompanied by a guide, the group has time to walk the grounds and talk with the country people.
